Nelda Hope Norris Coker, April 17, 1935 – August 7, 2019
Mrs. Nelda Coker age 84 of Centre passed away Wednesday, August 7th.
Funeral Service will be at 3 pm Saturday, August 10th at Perry Funeral Home with Dr. Ricky Pollard and Rev. Eugene Burgess officiating. Burial will follow in Cherokee Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1 pm until 3 pm at the funeral home.
Survivors include sons, Richard (Jamie) Coker of Trussville, AL & Joel (Lisa) Coker of Centre, AL; daughters, Joy Coker-Perry & Jennifer (David) Morgan of Centre, AL; brother, Davis (Eloise) Norris of Collinsville, AL. Grandchildren, Steven (Julie)Ashburner of San Francisco, CA, Lauren (Jake)Watters of Trussville, AL, Gunnery Sergeant Seth (Christina) Ashburner of San Diego, CA, Blair Perry of Atlanta, GA, Colin Perry of Centre, AL, Lee (Morgan) Morgan of Ft Payne, AL, Jeb (Dorothy) Coker, Atlanta, GA, Jarihope (Austin) Hiott, Moody, AL, Jacy Coker, Trussville, AL, Kaleb Gravett, Kennesaw, GA. Great grandchildren include Natalie, Maisie & Penelope Ashburner, Jacob, Audrey, Eisley & Keaton Watters, Madelyn & Emily Ashburner & Hayes Morgan. Special Niece & Caregiver, Pamela MacInnis
Mrs. Coker was a humble and kind person and loved Pine Grove Baptist Church, especially her Joy Sunday School Class. She had a passion for traveling and took trips to Hawaii, Washington, DC, New York and many other places. She made trips with the Goodyear Group and especially loved trips with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed playing Rook with her friends at the Senior Center and loved her wonderful neighbors on Brannon Court!
Mrs. Coker grew up on Lookout Mountain, graduated from Collinsville High School but lived most of her life in Centre. She was known as “Memaw” to all her precious grandchildren and to many others.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Janet Ashburner, husband, Jake Coker, sister, Artice Pendergrass, brothers, Elvin and Travis Norris. She was the daughter of the late Robert & Lois Norris of Collinsville, AL. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Pine Grove Baptist Church in Centre, AL.
