Murder Indictment Handed Down Friday

AbbottA murder indictment was handed down Friday against a man accused of killing James and Myra Reeves in Floyd County, back on January 23rd.

27 year old Emerson Mack Abbott, Jr. was originally arrested in February on the charge of theft by deception for allegedly taking $7,500 from Myra Reeves on January 20th for doing tree work at a future date; work which authorities say Abbott had no intention of actually ever doing.

A couple of weeks later, he was charged with murdering the couple, who were his Terhune Road neighbors.

During a preliminary hearing in March an investigator with the Floyd County PD stated that Abbott cashed the check at a bank in West Rome at around the same time 9-1-1 got the call regarding the murders.

Preliminary autopsy reports showed both victims were killed with a shotgun.

Abbott was also indicted by a Floyd County Grand Jury for false statements and writings.
