Murder Suspects are Awaiting Extradition Back to Cherokee County

Murder Arrest[Jeremiah Jackson – Left and Darrell Burgess – Right]

Two individuals are now in custody in connection with the shooting death of a 39 year old Cedar Bluff man during the early morning hours of Monday (October 20th).

Responding to the 9-1-1 call around 2:30 that morning Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver and several deputies along with Cedar Bluff Police Officers went to the location in the Farill community where they discovered the body of Billy Ingram, who had been the victim of a gunshot.

The recently formed Cherokee County Major Crimes Unit quickly responded to the location and began their investigation into the matter.

Evidence led investigators to Rossville, Georgia where 21 year old Jeremiah Jackson and 36 year old Darrell Burgess were taken into custody late Monday night.

Both are currently being held in the Walker County Detention Center, awaiting extradition back to Cherokee County on the charge of murder.

No additional information regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident has been made available.

Sheriff Jeff Shaver noted the diligent work of the Major Crimes Unit in making these arrests – adding “I know it’s difficult for a family to have some senselessly killed, and I’m thankful those responsible were apprehended so quickly.”
