National Community College Month

During their Monday morning meeting, the members of the Cherokee County Commission voted to adopt a resolution recognizing the month of April as National Community College Month.

Dr Raymond Staats, the President of Gadsden State Community College, was in attendance and spoke to those gathered about the exciting things taking place at the college.

Afterwards, Commission Chairman Kirk Day noted that he had two nephews currently attending Gadsden State adding that both were thoroughly enjoying the learning experience being provided by the school.

And, in other business – commission members voted to approve a request for special funds in the amount of $708.40 – which will go toward the publishing of the booklet “Eight Keys to Being a Better Me”, which is distributed to local school students;

The hiring of Ms Dana Carroll as Assistant Librarian at the Cherokee County Public Library was also approved;

The commission additionally voted to award a contract for an IBM 8202 Series Server Computer System Upgrade to Premise, Inc. in the amount of $46,204;

Approval was given for Southern Data to design the new county website at a cost of $1,000;

And, approval was given for Sheriff Jeff Shaver to list several items as surplus – and to purchase a 2013 Chevy Tahoe police package vehicle in the amount of $26,283.40 from Capital Chevrolet with the proceeds for that coming from the sale of the department’s bulldozer.

The next regular meeting of the Cherokee County Commission is set for Monday April 22nd – at 5:00pm, taking place in the County Administration Building in Centre.
