National Weather Service Says EF-1 Tornado Did Touch Down in Cherokee County Monday Night

According to the National Weather Service a short-lived tornado began near Highway 9 and the Cherokee County Country Club Golf Course Monday night at approximately 8:40 staying on the ground for around two minutes.

The tornado moved northeast along County Road 163; at the intersection of Highway 9 and County Road 163, a home sustained damage to a garage door and an adjacent pine tree was snapped. Just east of this location at least ten pine trees were snapped along portions of the golf course.

One half mile to the northeast shingles were blown off several apartment buildings and just north of the complex, a farm outbuilding was completely destroyed with metal panels being thrown 300 yards downstream across a field.

The tornado dissipated shortly thereafter before it reached Highway 411.

The tornado damage path was 1.07 miles long and it was 400 yards wide at its widest point – being classified as an EF-1 with estimated peak winds of 90 mph.

Cherokee County EMA Director Shawn Rogers has issued a statement urging everyone that has damage from any severe weather event occurring in Cherokee County, to make a report of it to the EMA office; that enables his office to submit accurate information to the National Weather Service, which they need to conduct surveys.
