New Additions Coming To The Collinsville Town Park

One of the biggest renovations in many years is currently underway at the Town Park in Collinsville. The Collinsville Town Council recently approved the construction of a two field softball complex adjacent to the current town park location just off of Highway 68 and North Grand Avenue.

On Tuesday, WEIS Radio News sat down with Collinsville Mayor Johnny Traffansted to talk about the about the project. He told us that talks about the project began about four years ago.

The project will also include the installation of new concession stands, pavilions, a picnic area with tables and grills and eventually a splash pad. The Mayor said one of the biggest reasons for the complex is due to the fact that the little league softball teams have had to in the past travel to Centre and Leesburg in order to use facilities, this now gives them an opportunity to play on their own fields.

Mayor Traffansted said that work on the project began on April 15 and will be completed within 90 days. The total cost of the project comes in at around $550,000 and makes it one of the largest renovation projects in the history of Collinsville.

The Mayor also said that the town has been able to complete several projects that have been in need of being completed for quiet sometime including construction of a new fire station, remodeling the second floor of the library, constructing a new strip mall and several paving projects within the last two years with hopes of more to come in the future.
