New Google Data Center Coming to Northeast Alabama

Google Data Center 1A decision by Google to open a new Google Data Center in northeast Alabama is reportedly going to result in the creation of about 100 new jobs.

Governor Robert Bentley announced on Wednesday, that the center will be located on the Bridgeport portion of the TVA Widow’s Creek site.

The Widow’s Creek factory in Jackson County is scheduled to close this October mostly due to changing regulations regarding storing and monitoring of coal ash. That particular plant has been generating power since 1952, and Google will apparently be repurposing some of the infrastructure as they adapt the site to suit their own needs.

Reportedly, TVA is looking into similar arrangements using the Google deal as the potential model for other sites.
