New Text Scam Using IRS Name

Here’s yet another variation on a scam using the IRS name.

People are receiving text messages from a telephone number with a 202 area code, which is the same as that used in Washington D.C. and the text tells the recipient that the IRS is filing suit against them, adding that if they don’t respond a warrant will be forwarded to local law enforcement agencies.

Okay, here’s what you do.  HIT DELETE and FORGET ABOUT IT.  It’s another scam.

The IRS doesn’t initiate contact with taxpayers by email, text messages or any social media outlets to request personal or financial information.

This includes requests for PIN numbers, passwords or similar access information for credit cards, banks or other financial accounts.

Don’t panic.  Think before you act.  Don’t be a victim.
