Nia Long joins the cast of ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’

Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — Fresh off of her Empire success, Nia Long has landed a new role, on CBS.

The network announced Monday that Long will join the NCIS: Los Angeles as a series regular in the upcoming ninth season of the show. The Love Jones actress will play Shay Mosely, a former Secret Service agent who is hired as the NCIS executive assistant director.

“The character was created specifically for Nia to capitalize on her strengths and personality, and we are excited about the new opportunities and dynamics she brings to the show,” said executive producer R. Scott Gemmill in a statement. “We couldn’t be happier to have her join our family.”

Series regular Miguel Ferrer died unexpectedly last January, leaving the crime drama with a cast slot to fill.

Long has kept a busy schedule this year with her appearances on Netflix’s Dear White People and Fox’s Empire as Shyne’s sketchy business partner, Giuliana Green.

Long will make her NCIS debut on the season nine premiere, which airs Sunday, October 1 at 9:30 p.m. ET.
