It appears that no charges will be filed against a man in connection with a fatal shooting that took place in the parking lot of a store in Fyffe.
Earlier in the month, 48 year old Edward Lee Phillips was shot and killed outside that store, after he reportedly approached a man sitting in a car and started an argument.
According to Dekalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris, witnesses said Phillips hit the driver through the open window before being shot three times; Phillips later died at the hospital. WAFF TV48 is reporting that prosecutors, said that the grand jury was advised of the law governing self-defense, along with the homicide statutes – and after deliberation, the grand jury returned a “no bill”.
The new self-defense law contains language that includes the unlawful or forceful entering of an occupied vehicle and also includes “stand your ground”.
