North Korea launches missile on American Independence Day

Photodisc/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — North Korea launched a ballistic missile from a province near the border with China on Tuesday, South Korea’s military said.

The unidentified ballistic missile was fired into the East Sea from the Banghyon, North Pyongan Province in the morning, according to the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

In recent months, North Korea has increased its missile activities. It is unclear if this was a routine test-firing of a short-range missile or an attempt to fine-tune a longer range missile.

North Korea is working its way toward a missile with enough range to deliver a nuclear warhead to the US.

President Trump recently spoke with Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and China’s President Xi Jinping separately about North Korea.

The missile was launched on July 4, the day America celebrates 241 years of independence.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned as more details emerge.
