Not Out of the Woods Yet – “Wintry Mix” Possible this Weekend for Portions of North Alabama

A few areas of northeast Alabama including some portions of Cherokee County experienced a very slight amount of what is commonly referred to as a “wintry mix” of sleet and freezing rain during the early morning hours of Wednesday; however, there certainly wasn’t enough to cause any travel problems.  According to the National Weather Service, the next potential for winter weather trouble could arrive this weekend – with another system bringing small amounts of snow to parts of north and central Alabama Sunday and Sunday night.

Light accumulations may be possible over north Alabama with that system; however that is subject to change over time.  It does appear likely the northern part of the state will see the coldest temperatures of the season so far, with the wind chill falling into the single digits on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday mornings.
