One Air-Lifted from Scene of Highway 9 Accident on the Causeway Tuesday Evening

One person was air-lifted from the scene of an auto accident that shutdown the causeway on Highway 9 in Cedar Bluff for almost four hours on Tuesday evening.

According to reports, the SUV stuck a power pole before flipping over the guardrail and landing in a shallow part of the lake just prior to 7:00pm.  Firefighters, rescue workers and paramedics all assisted in extricating the driver from the vehicle using the Jaws of Life.

She was taken from the scene to a landing zone that had been setup directly across the road at the State Boat Docks where she was flown to a Chattanooga Trauma Center for treatment of unspecified injuries.  There was also a small child in the SUV, which was removed safely by first responders.  The child was then checked out as a precautionary measure by medics at the scene – and very fortunately, suffered no injuries from the wreck.

The wreck caused traffic in the area to be backed up for several miles.

Cherokee Electric crews spent well over an hour re-setting a power pole that was damaged in the accident; that work caused power in the area to be shut off for a brief period of time while repairs were being made.

The Cedar Bluff Police and Fire Department, Centre Fire Department, Floyd EMS, Cherokee County Rescue personnel, Sheriff’s Office deputies, and Alabama State Troopers responded to the scene.
