One Dead After Shooting at Will Rogers Airport in Oklahoma

iStock/Thinkstock(OKLAHOMA CITY) — One person was shot at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Tuesday, the Oklahoma City Police Department announced on Twitter.

Local authorities said the airport was shut down, and advised people inside to “shelter in place.”

Later Tuesday, police said on Twitter that the victim, an employee for Southwest Airlines, had died.

Captain Paco Balderrama, the public information officer for the Oklahoma City Police Department, said his department had received “reports of shots fired in the parking lot area of Will Rogers World Airport.”

“At this point in time we’ve located one victim, and we are looking for a second reported victim,” Balderrama told reporters this afternoon. “We do not have any information to put out in terms of a suspect vehicle, or a suspect itself, but gun shots were heard.”

“We’re really asking for everybody to stay away from the airport area. All the streets are blocked off,” he added.

We have closed Will Rogers Airport at this time. If you are inside of the airport, shelter in place until advised otherwise.
