One man is dead following a Wednesday morning altercation in DeKalb County.

Sheriff Jimmy Harris says his office is investigating an incident which took place in a trailer park just off County Road 77 in the Mt. Vernon community on Lookout Mountain.

Harris said a call came in about 10:15 Wednesday morning regarding the altercation between the tenant of the mobile home and the landowner.  During the incident a gun was discharged with the landowner being fatally injured.

Apparently, the victim had been inside the home, with the tenant’s wife and children present, and he had been working on a stove or something in the rear of the home, when the altercation began.

No names have yet been released.

Sheriff Harris said that the findings of his office will be discussed with the district attorney, prior to any decision being made in regard to possible charges. 

He said there’s always a chance that the case could go to the grand jury as well.
