Berry College Student Killed In Head-On-Collision On The Causeway

An 18 year old Berry College student was fatally injured in a head-on-collision on the causeway between Centre and Cedar Bluff shortly before 9:00 Friday morning.

A pickup and a car collided across from the state docks sending the truck over the guardrail and down a rocky embankment; luckily, the lakebed was dry in that particular area.

One person was air-lifted to UAB and two others were transported for treatment by ground units – one to Rome and one to Gadsden. According to Cherokee County Coroner Dr. Jeremy Deaton 18 year old William Theodore Howard of an Etowah County address was pronounced dead at the scene.

Also responding were the Cedar Bluff Police & Fire Departments, Cherokee EMS, Cherokee County Rescue Squad, Centre Police Department and Alabama State Troopers.

We’ll have additional information as it becomes available.
