One Injured In Single Vehicle Rollover On Highway 68 In Leesburg

According to Leesburg Police one person was injured after the vehicle he was driving rolled off of Highway 68 West and down a steep embankment just before noon on Saturday.

Investigator Jamie Chatman said that the 82 year old male driver had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Leesburg Fire Department and Cherokee County Rescue Personnel before being transported to Floyd Medical Center in Rome by Cherokee EMS.

Chatman said that the driver was the only occupant in the vehicle and that he was wearing a seatbelt. The name of the man is not being released at this time.

Alabama Highway 68 between Leesburg and Sand Rock was shutdown for over two hours as crews worked to recover the vehicle.

The Leesburg Fire and Police Department, Sand Rock Fire Department, Cherokee EMS, Cherokee County Rescue Squad and Alabama State Troopers responded to the scene.

The accident is under investigation by the Leesburg Police Department and more information will be released as soon as the official accident report is complete.
