One Killed; Five Injured in Sunday Afternoon Wreck in Floyd County

One person was killed and five injured in a two-vehicle wreck on Highway 101 at the Silver Creek Mini-Mart Sunday afternoon.

According to Floyd County Police, a 2004 Ford Taurus, driven by 35 year old Charles Slaton of Rome, Georgia was traveling southbound behind a Honda Odyssey.  The Odyssey was attempting to turn left into the mini-mart, and the Taurus tried to pass on the left, traveling into the path of a Ford F-250, which was northbound.

Both vehicles swerved in an attempt to avoid the collision. The Taurus was struck on the passenger side and the truck flipped. A passenger in the Taurus, 32-year old Brandy Slaton of Rome was killed. An 11-year old in the Taurus was airlifted to the hospital. Charles Slaton and a 9 year old in the Taurus were taken by ambulance to the hospital. 58 year old David Gilmer and 55 year old Debra Gilmer of Aragon – who were in the F-250, were also transported by ambulance to the hospital.

The wreck occurred at 12:25pm Sunday.
