One Killed, Several Injured in Northwest Georgia Feed Mill Explosion

Rockmart 1One person was killed, several others injured in an explosion early Sunday morning at JCG Farms at 1750 Rome Highway in Rockmart.

According to Polk County Coroner Tony Brazier, 25-year old Justin Deems of Rockmart was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:30am; the Polk County Emergency Management Agency Director, Randy Lacey, said the explosion occurred at around 2:30am.

He said the ATF and State Fire Marshal’s office were called in and a structural engineer will also be inspecting the facility.

Lacey said that everyone in the plant has been accounted for. Another man was airlifted to an Atlanta hospital. The other injured people were taken to area hospitals.

According to the website at Hometownheadlines.com two were taken to Redmond Regional Medical Center; one was transferred to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Cobb Wellstar and two of the injured workers have been treated and released from Floyd Medical Center.
