iStock/Thinkstock(HAMBURG, Germany) — At least one person is dead and six injured in a knife attack in a Hamburg, Germany, supermarket.

The attacker entered the supermarket in the Barmbek region on Friday and “suddenly started stabbing customers,” according to Hamburg Police. Police said they arrested a suspect after he fled from the store.

Hamburg Police said the suspect is a 26-year-old man from the United Arab Emirates. Officials could not determine the motive of the attacker, and the suspect’s nationality was still being clarified by officials as of Friday afternoon.

A 50-year-old German male was killed in the attack, police said, and a 54-year-old woman and four men (ages 64, 57, 56 and 19 years old), suffered stabbing injuries. Hamburg Police said a 35-year-old man was injured while trying to overpower the suspect.

A police official said to the BBC when asked whether the incident was a terror attack: “We are at an early stage of the investigation… At the moment we can’t rule anything out. We are investigating all avenues.”
