One Killed, Two Injured in Highway 68 Wreck in DeKalb County Late Wednesday Night

A three vehicle accident on Highway 68 in DeKalb County Wednesday night claimed the life of a Crossville resident and left two other people injured.

The crash took place at the foot of the mountain near mile marker 17 at 11:55pm according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency accident report.  Those involved included a 2007 Chevy Silverado, being driven by Dustin Pounds of a Boaz address; a 2019 International 18 Wheeler driven by Christopher Ergle from Mableton, Georgia; and a 2007 Chevrolet Impala, driven by America Cantellano – who was killed in the crash.

Both Pounds and Ergle were listed as receiving injuries; both were wearing seat belts.

The wreck remains under investigation by state troopers.

The EMA and Alabama Department of Transportation were called to the scene due to diesel fuel leaking from the 18 wheeler as a result of the accident.  One lane of traffic still remains closed as of 10:00am Thursday.
