One of Three Bodies Found in Submerged Vehicle Now Identified

County Road 31 Accident 008One of the three bodies pulled from Weiss Lake last Thursday has now been identified.

According to Cherokee County Coroner Broderick Smith, one of the bodies was that of a 41 year old Piedmont resident, Bobby DeWayne Hyatt.

We understand that a positive ID has yet to be made on the other two.

Smith had previously informed WEIS Radio News, in an e-mail, that the bodies were believed to be those of two adult males and one adult female.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a location on County Road 31, around a mile and a half off of Highway 411 Thursday afternoon, June 13th at roughly 1:30pm, in response to a report of a vehicle being found upside down in the water, down an embankment.

County Road 31 Accident 018It was quickly determined that three bodies were inside the small Dodge pickup; all three bodies were sent to the Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville for autopsies – and for help in the identification process.

The investigation into the matter is on-going and we’ll have additional information as it becomes available.
