One Person Airlifted Following Single Vehicle Accident In Sand Rock / UPDATED

One person was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital following a single vehicle accident in Sand Rock on Tuesday afternoon.

A single vehicle accident Tuesday evening in Sand Rock sent two people to the hospital.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency accident report the crash took place on County Road 49 at 7:30pm, and involved a 1999 Nissan being driven by 32 year old Robbie Abernathy of Cedar Bluff.

Abernathy was air-lifted from the scene by LifeSaver Helicopter, and taken to Huntsville for treatment, after reportedly suffering a head injury in the wreck; a passenger in the vehicle, Jerry McGatha, was transported to an area hospital via ambulance.

The driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree near Blue Pond Gap.

Those responding to the scene included the Sand Rock Fire Department, Cherokee EMS and Alabama State Troopers.
