One Person Confirmed Dead In Rollover Accident On Piedmont Highway

Cherokee County Coroner Dr. Jeremy Deaton has confirmed that one person is dead following a single vehicle rollover on the Piedmont Highway just before 4:30 Sunday afternoon.

The vehicle was traveling southbound on Piedmont Highway when it left the roadway near Cherokee Memory Gardens and flipped, an eyewitness who was behind the car said that he observed the vehicle driving erratically and called 911 just before the wreck occurred.

The driver was partially ejected from the vehicle and had to be extricated by the Cherokee County Rescue Squad. The victim was wearing a seat-belt and had to also be cut from it prior to being removed from the car.

Deaton said that the name of the deceased is not being released at this time. 

The Centre Police and Fire Departments, Cherokee EMS, the Cherokee County Rescue Squad, Chief Deputy Coroner Paul McDonald and the Centre Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Investigator were all on scene.

The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.
