Coroner’s Office: Victim Involved In Accident On West Main Street Has Died As A Result Of Her Injuries / UPDATED

According to Cherokee County Coroner Jeremy Deaton, one person was fatally injured in an accident involving a car and an 18 wheeler early Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Centre Police Department accident report, the wreck occurred at 12:48pm in front of the Centre Walmart, and involved a 2003 Mercury Sable, being driven by 59 year old Melinda Lucille Smith from Cedar Bluff and the 18-wheeler belonging to Danny Herman Trucking out of Mountain City, Tennessee – being driven by 65 year old William Smith from Breman, Georgia. 

Melinda Smith was rushed from the scene to Cherokee Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries

Reportedly, there were no other occupants in the Mercury, and the driver of the 18 wheeler was unhurt.

Centre Police and Firefighters, Cherokee EMS, and members of the Cherokee County Rescue Squad responded to the scene.  Alabama State Troopers were also on-site.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
