One Seriously Injured in Single-Vehicle Rollover in Chattooga County Thursday Morning / UPDATED

A Rome resident was air-lifted to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga Thursday, after a single-vehicle wreck in Chattooga County.

The Georgia State Patrol Post in Floyd County stated that around 8:30 that morning 23 year old Cory Bethune was travelling towards Rome when his Jeep left the roadway on the west shoulder of Highway 27.  Bethune overcorrected and he crossed all lanes of traffic, with the Jeep rolling several times before finally coming to rest in a grassy median located between the north and southbound lanes of 27.

Personal effects from the Jeep were scattered across the median and highway and Bethune was ejected from the vehicle, which came to rest on top of him.  Other motorists stopped to render aid and were able to lift the back of the Jeep off of the accident victim.

Redmond EMS, Chattooga County deputies and the Georgia State Patrol all responded to the scene.  Bethune was transported to the Gore Fire Department – where he was then air-lifted for treatment.

No additional information regarding his condition has been made available.
