One To Three Inches Of Rain And Tornadoes Possible As Ida Makes Landfall

CAT4 Hurricane Ida with sustained winds of 150 mph is closing in on the southeast Louisiana coast. Radar imagery shows a well defined eye wall and Ida is currently located about 125 miles southeast of New Orleans. Ida is tracking northwest at 15 mph.

The latest forecast track has Ida coming ashore in southeast Louisiana late this afternoon/early evening. Ida will be a tropical storm nearing the border of Mississippi by Monday morning.

The storm surge on the Alabama Gulf Coast and Mobile Bay is now forecast to be 3-5 feet.

Ida will produce heavy rainfall today through Monday across the central Gulf Coast from southeastern Louisiana, coastal Mississippi, to far southwestern Alabama resulting in life-threatening flooding.

Rain amounts of over one foot are likely across Southeast Louisiana. The Alabama Gulf Coast will likely see 6-10 inches of rain with flooding likely. Cherokee County has been placed into a Marginal Risk for possible Tornadoes Monday through Tuesday. We could see rainfall amounts of between 1.5 – 3 inches. There is also the potential for sustained winds up to 25 mph with gusts over 40 mph.
