Otto Becomes Hurricane, Set to Hit Central America on Thursday

National Hurricane Center(SAN JOSE, Costa Rica) — Hurricane Otto has formed in the southwest Caribbean Sea and its on track to threaten Central America.

Otto was upgraded to a Category 1 hurricane on Tuesday, becoming the seventh of 2016.

As of Tuesday night, Hurricane Otto had wind gusts of up to 90 miles per hour as it approaches Costa Rica and Nicaragua, according to the National Hurricane Center. It’s expected to make landfall on Thursday.

Otto sets a new record for the latest hurricane to form in the season since Hurricane Martha in 1969, the NHC said.
