Outside shooting lifts Spring Garden girls in rout of Handley

SPRING GARDEN – Spring Garden connected on 12-of-25 3-pointers Friday night against Handley, lifting the Lady Panthers to a 77-46 basketball rout.

Neely Welsh led Spring Garden (9-2) with 23 points, including a pair of treys. She also grabbed five rebounds, had an assist and blocked a shot.

Sarah Kate McKay was a perfect 5-of-5 shooting from the 3-point arc and had 17 points. she also posted a pair of rebounds, a pair of steals and an assist.

Lexie Adkison added 12 points, six boards, two assists, a steal and a block. Abbey Steward sank three treys for nine points. Maggie Jarrett also scored nine points to go along with five rebounds and a steal. Ace Austin finished with seven points, 14 rebounds, 13 assists, four steals and two blocks.

Spring Garden jumped out to a 27-16 lead at the end of the first quarter and held a 47-26 advantage at halftime. The Lady Panthers led 62-34 at the end of three quarters.

Spring Garden takes on Springville in the Cherokee Invitational on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in Gaylesville.
