Overturned 18 Wheeler Shuts Down Highway 68 East Near The State Line / UPDATED

A tractor trailer hauling utility trailers overturned Thursday just after 8:00am – completely blocking Highway 68 East at the intersection with County Road 777.

The roadway was closed down for an extended period of time as crews worked to remove a number of utility trailers from the road and then upright the truck and trailer.  Cherokee County EMA officials were called to the location due to a fuel leak.  The driver of the big rig, listed on the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency accident report as 48 year old Solomon Cantor of a Piedmont address was checked at the scene by medics and then released.

Both the Gaylesville and Cedar Bluff Fire Departments with Cherokee EMS and the Alabama State Troopers responded.

That accident remains under investigation by troopers.
