BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) –Emergency crews responded to the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport on Thursday afternoon upon word of a sick passenger arriving on a flight at the airport.
Officials confirm that a male passenger who was arriving on the regularly scheduled United Airlines flight 4602 to Birmingham from Chicago originated his journey in Istanbul, Turkey.
With many people out there concerned about the Ebola virus, multiple emergency crews responded.
When asked, Birmingham Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief C.W. Mardis said at a news conference that the symptoms the passenger exhibited did not fit the criteria for those of an Ebola virus patient. This was simply a case of a passenger getting sick mid-flight.
Chief Mardis confirmed the sick passenger was removed from the plane and was evaluated. After it was determined there was no threat, the remaining 40 passengers were allowed off of the plane.
