US Congress(JANESVILLE, Wis.) — Addressing reporters Wednesday morning in Wisconsin, House Speaker Paul Ryan praised president-elect Donald Trump and said he “earned a mandate” from voters this election.
In his first on-camera remarks since Trump’s surprise victory over Hillary Clinton, Ryan said he spoke with Trump both Tuesday night and again Wednesday morning.
Ryan called Trump’s win the most “incredible political feat” he’s seen in his lifetime and thanked Trump for helping to keep the GOP majorities in both the House and Senate.
Ryan was eager to present a united front. “I am very excited about our ability to work together” under a President Trump, he said.
“We are going to hit the ground running,” he added, noting that his team and Trump’s team are working together on a transition.
