Pedestrian Struck By An SUV In Fort Payne On Thursday

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in Fort Payne and the driver of that SUV fled the scene.

According to Fort Payne Police Chief Randy Bynum at 5:30 Thursday a 2007 Ford Explorer, driven by a 16 year old juvenile male of Fort Payne, stuck a female pedestrian, Kerian Celest Hughes, age 19 of Higdon, who was walking north near the intersection of Godfrey Ave and Lee Street.

Hughes was transported to DeKalb Regional Medical Center for what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The 16 year old driver left the scene of the accident to go tell his parents who in turn returned with him to speak with officers.

Chief Bynum said that this serves as a strong reminder for parents to teach their children to stay at an accident scene to speak with authorities.

This accident remains under investigation with possible charges forthcoming.
