Cherokee and surrounding counties experienced a brief winter weather event on Saturday morning which brought some accumulating snowfall.
While amounts were generally less than one inch it was enough to make travel is some locations treacherous. According to the Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency, hazardous conditions were reported at the Leesburg Bridge, Cedar Bluff Bridge, Spring Creek Bridge on County Road 75 in Cedar Bluff, Highway 35, Highway 411 between Etowah County and Leesburg and Highway 68 from Leesburg to Collinsville.
ALDOT crews were contacted and brought in a sand truck to help clear the road of snow and slush.
There were at least three motor vehicle accidents reported during the snow, one vehicle overturned coming off of Highway 35 into Blanche – fortunately the driver was not injured, a second accident was reported on Highway 411 South where a vehicle ran off of the roadway and struck a tree, Collinsville Police and Fire responded to a rollover accident near the top of the mountain on Highway 68.
