Piedmont firefighters responded to reports of a house fire at the intersection of North 5th Avenue and West Gayley Street just before 6:00pm Tuesday.
Fire engines arrived on the scene in less than three minutes and found heavy smoke coming from the structure – they quickly established that the family had all managed to exit the home safely – and at that time they initiated an interior attack, and were able to bring the blaze under control in a matter of minutes.
The structure suffered heavy fire damage to one side and heat and smoke damage to the other.
Early indications are that the cause of the fire was grease left on a stove.
