A good crowd turned out Saturday morning to watch Mayor Bill Baker and others jump into the frigid pool water at the brand new Piedmont Aquatic Center.

Baker, who was pleased with the turnout, spoke prior to jumping in.

Mayor Baker and Butler were the first into the pool, followed by everyone else.

Keith Word, the MC for the event gave us the play by play.

The air temperature was about 38 degrees for the event. The water temperature was actually about 10-degrees warmer.

Venecia’s Foudnation is a non-profit organization that provides aid, support, and comfort to cancer patients and their families.

The foundation provides care packages for local residents going through chemotherapy.

Their next goal is to purchase portable DVD players so patients can have some entertainment while receiving treatment, which can last anywhere from 30 minutes to 6 hours.

Saturday’s Polar Plunge raised an estimated 2-thousand dollars, including two checks for 500-dollars each.
