In a show of support to their fellow first responders, Piedmont Rescue & EMS has donated 11 body cameras to the Officers of the Piedmont Police Department.

EMS Chief Phillip Winkles told WEIS Radio News that it was truly an honor for his department to provide these cameras to the men and women who keep the citizens safe from harm on a regular basis.

Winkles said “While most first responders communities, usually made up of fire departments, police and EMS personnel are bound closely by a sense of dedication and service to others, that bond is especially tight in the small town of Piedmont, Alabama.”

While police officers are routinely dispatched alongside EMS when there is any potential for violence, Winkle says that it is not uncommon for Piedmont Police Officers to accompany EMS Personnel on a call even if there is no blatant indication of danger.

Piedmont Police Chief Freddie Norton was very thankful to EMS for the gesture and stated that as he prepared his first budget as Chief, this was going to be priority however that money can now be used for other things.

Norton said “I feel like having body cameras will not only benefit the Piedmont community, but also the department and each individual officer”
