Pisgah High School Student in Custody Following Alleged “Shooting Threat” Posted on Snapchat

A Jackson County teenager was arrested in connection with a school shooting threat posted on Snapchat over the weekend.

The suspect, a Pisgah High School student, is charged as a juvenile, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.  Jackson County Chief Deputy Rocky Harnen said the student posted a picture of a pistol on Snapchat and stated that people shouldn’t attend school on Monday.

School officials say a parent notified them of the threat. Heightened security procedures are in place today at the school.  Harnen said while authorities believe any potential threat has been eliminated, the extra security is a precaution that can make students and parents feel safer, adding “We have a zero tolerance policy…any threat will be handled in the criminal justice system.”
