Police Chase Starts In Centre, Ends With Driver Crashing In Hokes Bluff

chase1A police chase that began in Centre ended in Hokes Bluff Sunday afternoon after the driver crashed and injured three people.

According to Centre Police Chief Kirk Blankenship the chase ensued after Officers Matt Peek and Will Clark attempted to stop a Nissan Maxima near Stinson Street and County Road 71, as the officers approached the vehicle the juvenile suspect fled.

Chief Blankenship said that during the pursuit, the driver threw controlled substances out of the window and kept going.

Additional assistance was requested from the Etowah County Sheriff’s Department as the chase continued into Etowah County near Beans and Greens Restaurant before the vehicle driven by the juvenile collided with the rear of a pickup truck on County Road 71.

The drivers of the pickup, a woman with her 11-year-old and 19-year-old daughters, were all injured and were airlifted from the scene to UAB Hospital; at least two of the victims were critically injured.

The juvenile driver was also taken to the hospital and then transported to the Coosa Valley Detention Center; charges are pending at this time.
