FILIPPO MONTEFORTE/AFP/Getty Images(VATICAN CITY) — Pope Francis has called for an immediate ceasefire in Syria.
In St. Peter’s Square the pope Wednesday begged for a ceasefire in Syria at least long enough to remove civilians, including children, from the ravaged city of Aleppo.
This week, Russia carried out a series of deadly airstrikes on Aleppo, killing 25 civilians — mong them was four children. Russia is backing the Syrian Assad-led regime.
Earlier this month, aerial attacks on the city killed hundreds of people and destroyed the largest remaining hospital east of Aleppo.
