Preliminary Hearing for Woman Charged with Murder Re-scheduled

Smith, PamA new preliminary hearing for an Anniston woman charged with murder has been set for later in the month (July 2014).

46 year old Pamela DeAnne Smith was arrested on May 26th and charged with the murder of 39 year old Casey Lynn Payne, also of Anniston.

Smith made her $50,000 bond and was released the following day.

According to the Anniston Star, Payne was killed by a shotgun blast to the chest at Smith’s home in the 2200 block of Parkwood Drive; the two were reportedly acquaintances. It remains unclear what prompted the incident that claimed Payne’s life.

Calhoun County District Judge Chris McIntyre re-scheduled the hearing after Smith appeared in court Monday (June 30th) without an attorney.

Judge McIntyre appointed attorney Allen Meighan to represent Smith and then re-scheduled the preliminary hearing for Thursday, July 17th at 10:00am.
