Private Plane Makes Emergency Landing Near Chattooga/Floyd County Line Saturday Morning

A small private plane made an emergency landing near the Floyd/Chattooga County line on Saturday morning.

Floyd County Police Sergeant Chris Fincher stated that the pilot of the Cessna 170 heard his engine start to “seize up” in mid-air while en route to Richard B. Russell Airport in Rome; at that point, he felt he had no option other than to make an emergency landing on Sike Storey Road near Highway 27 in Armuchee.

The plane made the landing successfully near some power lines along the roadside without any damage to the plane, or other vehicles on the road – and no injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

The plane was towed back to the Richard B. Russell airport with the aid of vehicles from the airport.
