Quick Action By Firefighters Saves Man From Burning Lift

A man had to be rescued after the lift he was on caught fire Saturday afternoon in Oxford.

It happened around 2:50 p.m. on Davis Loop.

The Oxford Fire Department says the man had made contact with power lines and was trapped about 25 feet off the ground.

Upon arrival the lift was on fire with no way to get the man from the lift until the power was cut off. Firefighters had to think quickly.

They made a make-shift safety net out of a tent.

As the fire grew, the man jumped off the lift and landed on the tent.

He was flown to UAB with a leg injury and smoke inhalation.
