A total of 21 Radio Shack stores will be closing in the state of Alabama – that as the result of the Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection plan filed by the company last Thursday.
In all, more than 1,700 locations will be closing, with about 1,750 stores being unaffected.
The retailer, which has been in business for some 94 years, stated it plans to sell anywhere from 1,500 to 2,400 stores to its largest shareholder – investment firm Standard General – with the details of the deal still being worked out.
Nearby locations which are slated for closure include the Radio Shack stores in – Ft Payne, Gadsden, Scottsboro and the Crestwood Boulevard location in Birmingham.
No word yet on the actual closing date for those and other locations.
