Report: Phillies Re-Sign Herrera to Five-Year Deal

(Allen Kee / ESPN Images)(PHILADELPHIA) — The Philadelphia Phillies have agreed to terms with center field Odubel Herrera, sources tell ESPN. The deal is reportedly for five years and guarantees Herrera $30.5 million. It also includes club options for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

Herrera, 24, was acquired by Philadelphia from the Texas Rangers in 2014 as part of the Rule 5 draft. He started out as a middle infielder, but was made a center field by the Phillies, where he started Opening Day in 2015.

Last sesaon, Herrera set season highs in home runs (15) and walks (63) while batting .283 and being named to the National League All-Star team.

Herrera is currently the only player on the Phillies’ roster signed to a contract beyond the 2017 season.
