Reports: Six Survivors Found Rubble of Italy Hotel Buried by Avalanche

Hemera/Thinkstock(FARINDOLA, Italy) — Six people have reportedly been found alive in the rubble of an Italy hotel that collapsed after being buried by an avalanche on Wednesday, according to local news agencies.

Hotel Rigopiano on the Gran Sasso mountain was buried under snow following Wednesday’s multiple earthquakes in the region. Authorities said Thursday that more than 20 people were believed to be trapped in the hotel.

The six who are were found alive under the rubble are three men, two women and one little girl, according to local TV channel Rai News 24. Five of the six have already been extracted from the rubble, Rai News reported. It is thought that these people have been under the rubble since about 5 or 6 p.m. local time Wednesday.

One of the six, a woman, has been flown to a hospital for treatment, according to Rai News.

Two other people were rescued on Thursday, but the heavy snow made initial rescue operations difficult. Weather conditions have since improved.
