President Donald Trump said there would be an “orderly transition on January 20th” – that, after Congress concluded the electoral vote count early this (Thursday) morning, certifying President-elect Joe Biden’s win in the presidential race.

In a statement posted to Twitter by aides after his personal account had been locked by the social media company, President Trump stated – “Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th,” The House and Senate met Wednesday at 12:00 noon in a joint session to count the Electoral College votes when protesters broke through security around the Capitol, resulting in violence and damage and shutting down the proceedings for hours.

Amidst calls for President Trump to address the angry crowds during the situation he made this announcement via Twitter

Closer to home, Governor Kay Ivey said “As our elected representatives reconvened in the U.S. Capitol, Vice President Pence reminded us that violence never wins in our great nation — freedom wins,” – she then went on to say “I’m pleased to see the people’s work continue, and the rule of law upheld.  The resiliency of our country will always prevail.”

WEIS Radio spoke with Representative Ginny Shaver late Wednesday afternoon, who made this statement:

FROM STATE REPRESENTATIVE GINNY SHAVER:

“There is a right way and a wrong way to protest. I denounce violence and destruction of property. This is not who we are. We are the party of law and order. Please pray for our country.”

Senator Andrew Jones also shared his thoughts Wednesday:

FROM STATE SENATOR ANDREW JONES:

“The events that took place at the U.S. Capitol today were completely out of line, and I fully denounce the violence and destruction of property that took place there. We are a nation of laws, and we must settle our disagreements in a peaceful manner. Our nation is better than this, and it is clear to me now more than ever that we need to pray that our nation will turn toward God.”

We’ll continue to follow this story as new developments occur.
