Roadblock Leads to Arrest of Summerville Woman for Possession of Hashish

A roadblock conducted by the Summerville Police Department resulted in the arrest of a 20 year old Chattooga County woman on charges of possession of hashish – which is an illegal substance extracted from cannabis.  The roadblock was being conducted on East Washington Street last Saturday night.

Ashton Copeland, of a Summerville address, pulled up to the roadblock and according to reports officers observed several marijuana cigarettes in Copeland’s vehicle.  When asked if she had any other illegal substances, Copeland initially told officers that she didn’t.  Later, it was discovered Copeland had hashish in her possession.  Reports indicated that Copeland told the officers that she hadn’t told them about the illegal substance, because she knew it was a felony and didn’t want to go to jail.

She also told them she purchased the illegal drug from someone she identified as a “dealer”, that comes to her place of employment in Rome.

Copeland was booked into the Chattooga County jail on related charges.
