Robert Benjamin Nelson Sr.

Robert Benjamin Nelson Sr., age 92 of Cedar Bluff passed away January 1st at his residence.

Funeral services will be 2 PM at Cedar Bluff First United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Wright and Dr. George Cobb officiating; burial will follow in Cedar Bluff Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 Noon until 2 PM Wednesday January 4that Cedar Bluff First United Methodist Church.

Pallbearers include Jim Nelson, Mac Nelson, Bob McWhorter, Paul McWhorter, Billy Nelson, and Cliff Nelson.

Survivors include his wife Louise McWhorter Nelson, sons Jeff (Crista) Nelson of Cedar Bluff, Joe (Debbie) Nelson of Brevard, NC.; daughter Mary Nelson of Panama City, FL.; daughter-in-law Carolyn Nelson of Huntsville; brother William Nelson of McCrae, GA.; sister Dorothy Pinkstaff of Gray, GA.; grandchildren Jim (Emily) Nelson, Kellie Nelson, Jessica Nelson, Julia Nelson, and Mac Nelson; several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his son Ben Nelson.

Mr. Nelson was a native of Thomaston, GA., a son of the late Clifford and Lucinda Worsham Nelson and was a member of Cedar Bluff First United Methodist Church. He was a proud World War II Army Veteran serving his country in the Third Infantry Division. He saw action in North Africa, Italy, France, and Germany. He fought in the Battle of Anzio in Italy, and was awarded a Bronze Star for action in France. After the war, he graduated from the University of Georgia, School of Forestry and spent his career as a forester at Georgia Kraft Company.

The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to the Cedar Bluff First United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund.
