Rogers Supports Trump Efforts to Address Migrant Influx

Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.), ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee, applauded President Trump’s announcement that his administration will take action to enhance the efficiency of the U.S. asylum system.

“Our asylum system is broken and human smugglers and criminals are profiting from its weaknesses and flaws,” ROGERS SAID. “President Trump is doing everything within his power to address the crisis at our border, including his call today for regulations to streamline our asylum process.

“However, there is only so much the president is able to do on his own. To truly fix the broken system, Congress must act. House Democrats continue to deny that there’s a humanitarian and national security crisis at the border, while at the same time insisting that current border conditions are the president’s fault. It’s past time for Democrats to admit that Congress must act to stop our laws from being abused, while protecting those with legitimate asylum claims.”
